Transportation Options

To Pacific Northwest

• Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is the principal airport of entry to the area, and is served by all major U.S. air carriers (e.g.Northwest, Delta, Alaska, United, Continental, etc.). Daily, there are direct flights from Newark/New York, Houston, Denver, Chicago, San Francisco, San Jose, Washington, D.C., Dallas.

  There are also direct flights from various european airports (Amsterdam with KLM/Northwest, Copenhagen with SAS/United, London Heathrow with British Air).



• Vancouver International Airport is another possible point of entry into the region, especially when coming from Europe. However, entry into the USA from Canada is becoming increasingly complicated and time-consuming, so this must be accounted for. Also, ferry service to the San Juan Islands from Vancouver involves going to Victoria, and then proceding to the San Juan Island ferry.


• Train Service: Amtrak offers service into Seattle's King Station across the northern USA, via Minneapolis.

To San Juan Islands

• Driving Directions from Seattle Travel north on Interstate 5 for about 90 minutes, until you reach Burlington. Take exit 230, and travel west on Highway 20 to Anacortes. Follow signs to Anacortes and San Juan Islands Ferry Terminal.


• Ferry Washington State Ferries sail from Anacortes to Orcas Island in approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. For current schedules and information, please call 1-800-84-FERRY or visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries.
  Important: Please note that during the summer months, including late August, wait times can be substantial. Arrive 2 hours prior to sailing time; plan ahead and remain flexible. We also recommend car pooling with friends up to the island!


• Bellair Airporter Shuttle The Bellair Airporter Shuttle offers scheduled service between Sea-Tac Airport and the ferry landing in Anacortes.


• Kenmore Air Kenmore Air offers daily seaplane service between Lake Union in Seattle or Kenmore Air Harbor on Lake Washington and Rosario Resort & Spa on Orcas Island. • San Juan Island Airlines San Juan Airlines provides daily air service between Seattle/Boeing field and the Eastsound Aiport on Orcas Island. San Juan Air offers a complimentary shuttle service between Sea-Tac and Boeing field. Please contact your hotel, B&B to see whether pick-up at the airport can be arranged.
